It is encouraging to see that several churches/agencies/organisations here seek God’s blessing for Colchester and cooperatively work together to serve the Borough in the name of Jesus. The Colchester Soup Run is one of them, having volunteers from several churches in the area. It provides sandwiches, hotdogs, hot drinks, soup, tea and coffee together with fruit and treats of cake and crisps throughout the year. It has been going for 20 years this year, celebrating the fact that over twenty churches in the Borough continue to be actively involved in offering a meal to homeless people in Colchester every night of the year. Thankfully, I myself have had chances to serve the people with the Soup Run. From 8 o’clock, when it is dark (even summer time), and people start coming to the tables where foods are prepared for them. Generous amount of the sandwiches made and donated by the local church were sufficient for their night meal as well as their takeaway breakfast. John, who almost comes every first Saturday of the month, knows the regular visitors and was busy to talk to them while other volunteers were busy to serve. Some of them thanked and left us behind saying, ‘God bless you’. It was told to me that the visitors know that it is run by Christians and often ask for prayers for their families.
This coming month of December there is a special blessing in a bigger scale to celebrate Christmas for the homeless adding more goodies. I’m happy that we are able to contribute to this with a multi chocolate bar hamper.
